Fuel-flexible hydrogen generation, enabling distributed fueling stations for private and commercial vehicles.

The problem

The fossil fuel-based transportation sector accounts for a higher share of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions than any other sector, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Battery-powered electric vehicles present cleaner alternatives but have their own limitations--the electricity used to charge the vehicles may still come from hydrocarbon sources, for example, while the batteries have range limitations and are bulky and heavy for larger vehicle types.

Our solution

SAFCell hydrogen generation solutions enable the on-site conversion of readily-available liquid feedstocks such as ammonia into hydrogen at fueling stations. Hydrogen is a clean fuel that, when consumed in a fuel cell, produces water as its only byproduct. For large vehicles such as heavy duty trucks, trains and ships, SAFCell hydrogen generators could provide on-board hydrogen generation from liquid fuels, enabling the use of clean fuels for some of the world’s most polluting industries.
